Stereotypical homeschooler?

It's always fun seeing who's following us now, and today I realized that a long time "email" friend and CDA supporter had snuck into the list unnoticed. I saw that Katie was doing this on her blog and it looked fun to test myself.

I scored scarily high, same as her! Then I saw that Rachel (our blog button designer) had also done it so I guess it's going around.

Are you the stereotypical homeschooler? X the boxes that apply to you.

Growing up/now:

[x] Girls: Own/have owned a denim jumper

[x] You were at least 13 when you got your first "trendy" haircut [probably still don't have one! I like long hair]

[x] Everything in your closet at some time was referred to as modest

[x] You do/have tucked things in that shouldn't be tucked in [that's funny to remember]

[x] You have been a member of at least 2 co-ops

[x] Your mom drives a van of some sort [we had our van days, yes, for all those long legs and musical instruments!]

[x] You have at least one childhood picture where you, your mom, and all you siblings matched [oh yeah…homemade plaid jumpers!!]

[ ] You are/were/will be a PSEO Student [uh...what's that?]

[x] At some point in your life you were more comfortable with adults than kids your own age [pretty much always]

[x] Have studied ways to defend your beliefs, debate, and/or create laws

[x] Used uber conservative A Beka or Bob Jones curriculum

Total: 10

[x] You use big words that most adults could not use in conversation

[x] You can use the words sublime, epiphany, and cognizant correctly

[x] You have a favorite word. [correctly spelling "miscellaneous" when I was younger]

[] You have an understanding of Latin root words and how to use them [did study this at one point but don’t remember much]

[] People from the outside world are referred to as "public schoolers"

[x]You or one of your siblings knits.

[x] You laugh at the decline in literacy in America [The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read. Mark Twain]

[x] You score constantly higher than "public schoolers" on standardized tests.

[] You have no concept of cafeteria food [volunteered - and ate - at a hospital for 7 years before moving here]

[x] Family vacations are/ can be referred to as "Field Trips" [those are the best kind!]

[x] Traveling on said vacations have included stopping at historical site markers along the way [also the best stops!!]

[] You have never been in a public elementary school, middle school, or high school during regular school hours (any or all of the above) [I was 12 years old before I did go in one school briefly. Culture shock deluxe!!]

[x] You have gone to or been involved in a homeschool convention

Total so far: 19

[x] You read books on a regular basis [of course! Not nearly as much as before Bolivia, but today I am finishing the 400+ page “The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House”]

[x] You have taken part in a political protest [If writing letters or petitions counts, usually on adoption or child trafficking…]

[] You were a Pride and Prejudice fan before the movie

[] You were a Lord of the Rings fan prior to the movie

[] You were a Chronicles of Narnia fan before the movie [this would be my sister Emma! but for me, I've read them but never been a big fan of fiction]

[x] You speak a language other than English [was pretty conversant in Russian before Spanish]

[] You dream of dating characters from books instead of celebrities [never dreamed of dating anyone…which is even more the “homeschool answer” =) ]

Total so far: 22

It (has been) assumed that you:...

[x] Have won many spelling bees [my spelling was sharper before spell check, oops]

[x] Have no social life

[x] Have no friends of the opposite gender

[]Are extremely inept [could very well be true, I just didn't hear of it]

[x] Only listen to classical music

[x] Play piano or the violin [that would be piano for me, and violin for all of my sisters and many of my kids here]

[x] you do not own a pair of trendy jeans

[x] Have no knowledge of drugs or alcohol [unfortunately I’ve now had quite the education in this job of mine…]

[x] Don't date, only court. [true]

[x] you have never been to a "party" [by “their” definition, haven’t!]

[x] Know no other beliefs other than what your family believes

Total so far: 32

You have been asked more than 10 times in your life:

[x] If you wear pajamas to school [not sure about 10 times, but was definitely asked!]

[x] If you get perfect grades because your mom grades you

[x] If your mom teaches you or if somebody else's mom does

[x] How do you meet people

[x] Why you aren't in school

[x] If you get days off whenever you want [more often than not in my case, I was sad to have to skip days! My Mom asked ME for days off, LOL]

[x] If you're going to be homeschooled through college

[] If you have a big family [just last week someone marveled at my big family of four kids…uh, that’s NOT big]

[x] What your parents are protecting you from

[] To quote something famous

[x] For the answer, because supposedly homeschoolers always have all the answers

Total so far: 41

You have "rebelled" by:

[] Listening to "worldly music"

[] Wearing black fingernail polish

[] Wearing tight clothes or letting your midriff show or showing off what color of boxers you are wearing

[x] Watching a *gasp* PG-13 movie [but not till I was probably near 20...]

[] Breaking dress code

[x] Listening to music with a beat

[] Dancing. Especially dances that involve contact for longer than 2 seconds. With somebody of the opposite gender. [I don't suppose dancing with my Dad counts?]

subtract this from total: 39

OVERALL TOTAL: 39

1-10 You're not really a homeschooler...you just do school at home

11-21 You're a homeschooler, but not what the world expects

22-32 You're a homeschooler

33-? Congrats you're the stereotypical homeschooler

Some of these just describe children of super conservative parents :) I'm a public school kid but was raised in a very sheltered home...college - even at a Private Christian College was a HUGE wake up call!

But I wouldn't trade my conservative upbringing for anything!

GREAT post!

I've been a homeschool mama for 18 years, and have at least 11 left to go (my two youngest are in 1st grade).

I'll make sure and tell my kids about this post.

mama of 13 :)

Haha, I'm glad you ended up with the same number as me!! I was a little worried about how high my number was! lol

It's good to hear from you. I'm sorry I have been so bad about keeping up. I would love to come work in Bolivia. I pray every day that someday the Lord will let me! :D

When you have a chance, you might want to read the last post I wrote on my blog. I had a very neat story involving Casa de Amor this week!!
