question...

This is a question for all of you creative people!

I am finally formalizing an official "advocate" program for Casa de Amor. Friends and former volunteers often express interest in continuing to help Casa de Amor from their home country. This would give them more tools to be able to share with their friends, fundraise, and......an official title. Or something.

I've read clever names from other non-profits before (none of which come to mind right now) and wonder if there's something more catchy we can use.

Heart Friends?

An acronym that stands for something?

"Advocate" is more of a legal term than anything, but I looked up synonyms and here's what I found:

Main Entry: advocate
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: person supporting an idea or cause publicly
Synonyms: apostle, attorney, backer, campaigner, champion, counsel, defender, exponent, expounder, lawyer, pleader, promoter, proponent, proposer, speaker, spokesperson, supporter, upholder

Any thoughts, comments, questions, ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

I think advocate is a good word. The definition seems to fit (the synonym "pleader" seems appropriate at times...!). Plus, people would know what it meant, because of other non-profits already using that term.

I would never have thought that "apostle" was a synonym for advocate, but it's interesting!

I still like the idea of "cheering squad", which you used in an email a while ago! But then I realised I wouldn't look good in the uniform - shame!

I like advocate. It's something I've studied a lot for work and (at least in nursing) it seems to carry the connotation of speaking up for those who are unable to speak for themselves and making their needs known to the people who can help meet those needs. Sounds like what I think you're talking about......
